The Wasserschutzpolizei or Water Protection Police was the only branch of the  police service to wear a dress dagger.

 These daggers were worn by officers alone. The design being the same as  that of the Kriegsmarine dirk with the exception of the leather covered  Tuned  wood grip which is decorated with a Police emblem on obverse . The grip emblems vary from silvered cut-out types similar to the Police Bayonet insignia to Police sword type emblems.

Some examples produced by the Eickhorn firm do not have the grip emblem. The dagger was suspended from standard Naval hangers. These daggers are scarce .
